What is PPF?
Paint protection films, (aka PFF’s or clear bra’s) are clear films that can be applied to the whole vehicle in order to protect your car when driving. PFF’s have been used by racing leagues such as NASCAR since the 1980s and soon after it became available to the general public. PFF’s offer the best impact protection over all other coatings such as wax or ceramic coatings. They also offer good chemical protection that your car will succumb to under daily driving conditions. A PFF is a thick clear wrap on your vehicle. It uses a polyurethane rubber that absorbs impacts from the environment and keeps your car looking new as well as safe from the environment.
How much will it cost?
For just the front bumper, it will cost around $500. And that’s usually good enough for most people as that’s where most rocks and materials hit, although you can install it on the whole body of the car. Although, the cost will rise up to around $10000. Also, again keep in mind that these wraps need to be replaced almost every decade as the film will start peeling and yellowing. But, then again the cost of replacing a paint chip or fixing dents and rust certainly start to justify the price to protect your beauty.
DIY?
While you can certainly do this yourself with enough experience, it is highly recommended to have a professional install it as it will make sure the job is done right and that no damage is done to your vehicle. Another benefit to getting it done at a shop is that most companies offer a multi-year warranty so in case it wasn’t installed properly or wears early you can get it replaced for free, which won’t happen if you do it yourself.
