You want a safe car for you and your family, right? Well while America has the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to test cars, Europe has the New Car Assessment Programs (NCAP). And they have just tested Tesla’s new car, the Model 3. And it has passed with flying colors receiving these scores
Adult Occupant: 96%
Child Occupant: 86%
Vulnerable Road Users: 74%
Safety Assist: 94%
Let’s go into a little more detail about those scores..,
Adult Occupant
In the adult impact test, received almost full points on all tests. It received a good or adequate rating on all tests except for the lateral impact test where it received one marginal rating.
Child Occupant
In the child crash test it almost received a perfect score. And a test involving installing a car seat got a perfect score. However, where it received a lot of deductions is in not including Isofix and i-Size for only the second row outboard seats, and not including integrated CRS anywhere.
Vulnerable Road Users
This tests how cyclists, pedestrians would fare against hitting the front end of a Tesla Model 3. And this is where Tesla fared the worst as the pedestrian got only 24.1/36 points. However, Tesla has an automated emergency braking system to prevent accidents like this.
Safety Assists
This is where Tesla scored the highest. And rightly so as they were one of the first car companies to start installing sensors in their cars like this. They received an almost perfect score in all categories and are still one of the most technologically advanced cars on the road today.
In conclusion, if you were ever curious about buying a Tesla because you might be concerned about the safety. Don’t be, because the Tesla Model 3 is one of the safest cars on the road.
